Others are veritable household words, including Oliver Twist, Fagin, Pickwick, Mr. None is more familiar than Ebenezer Scrooge who, before his redemption, provides a name for those who practice the most stringent form of capitalism. It's enough, though, that we can know his fictional "children." Tomalin reintroduces the characters to us, shows us aspects of them that we may not have seen, and points out their models from Dickens' real life. This affair is part of the Dickens story, but like The Mystery of Edwin Drood is interrupted by the death, in 1870, of the author.
